Dig In is a colony sim & management game. The demo is set during the early days of the Great War, in 1914. The armies of Europe have fought each other to a standstill. This is the dawn of trench warfare—brutal, static, and destined to last over four years.

In this demo, you play as the British Expeditionary Force, facing off against the Germans, who have already begun digging in. But this is just the beginning—all major participants in the war will be featured as the game expands. Inlcuding Austria- Hungary, France, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Turkey and Serbia.

You're a Company Commander, responsible for a single sector of the front. You have just 4 days to dig your defenses, manage your men, and hold the line. If you survive, you may get the chance to push the enemy back.

Command your officer pawn and lead multiple sections. Assign shifts, allow time for rest, and ensure your men get food and warmth—without it, they won’t last long under fire.

As you dig deeper, runners become your lifeline, relaying vital orders and reports across the chaos of no-man’s-land.

Key Features:

  • Dig trenches… then dig them deeper

  • Assign orders and manage shifts to avoid fatigue

  • Scavenge the battlefield, chop down trees, or dismantle civilian infrastructure to reinforce your defenses

  • Manage supplies and keep morale up

  • Shell the enemy with artillery—and brace yourself when they return the favor

  • Consolidate, defend… and Dig In

This is a work-in-progress demo. Join us in shaping the game—your feedback is essential.

How to download this game?

It took me hours and I still didnt got downloaded.

its over

This looks amazing, I can't wait to play it!

(1 edit)

I haven't played the game but from what I've seen it looks like a cool game but I feel that when artillery hits the ground it should clear land and remove grass making dirt, mud and a little hole in the earth.

But can't wait to try the game out in full release.

How do I get this demo to play on my channel!

(+1)

Looking forward to testing this out :)

(+1)

Please can you release the demo. I really want to try this game because I have watched all your videos on Youtube and this games seems so fun.

(+1)

please release free demo soon (atleast within 3 weeks)

(+1)

I think dig in should have field guns added to the game, where you could not build them or craft them. you would have to find them on the map or get them from reinforcement. it would be cool to use one to launch shells at the enemy.

HOW TO  GET TO DEMO

Wow the game I never knew I needed. I can see this being a big past time of mine 10/10

(+1)

Can you tell me if I can still get the Demo and if yes, how do I download it ?

Would abseloutely buy this on full release 8/10

Thank you! setting the bar for 10/10 on release

fantastic to hear, my only problem with the game is a slight lack of polish which of course will be removed by full release.

im super exited for it :)

I would like to try out the demo of this game sometime, game is really good based on the looks. its like smashing rimworld with ww1 all into one game

could i pls try the demo pls i didnt really had the time to download it

Sorry for the delay everyone. But I feel I have to mention. I was a playtester for this earlier, and I have to applaud. The developers are among the most friendly but consciencious I have yet worked with and are a welcome change to some I can name. The game is fun - if still tricky - and while in its present forms is modeling 1914 with systems closer to 1916 (and the need to research cooking food in the field) it is a worthy challenge and enjoyable game. You will struggle, but you can readily prevail.

Seeing the game evolve even in the stage it has from the pre-demo playtest to now should show anyone the team is dedicated and takes feedback very seriously.  I'd recommend this to just about anyone, as well as an invite to join their Discord.

Hope to see you all there.

10/10 game. 100% would buy. its still in development so I can forgive it not being perfect but considering what has been done so far the small issues should be hammered out and all the features added! I cant wait for the release. I love it and its my new favourite game ( i played the demo for 2 days in a row straight basically)

Game is fantastic already at such an early stage. Such attention to detail and thought going into creating truly what I think will be seen as the best WW1 game made. Everything a WW1 buff could want, and more !

While the menu is a bit cluncky the gameplay is a solid. It's quite heavy on the graphics at the moment but still playable. It took a bit of time to figure it all out but having played these types of games before it feels quite intuitive. Looking forward to seeing this develop. would 100% buy the game when it comes out.

how dowload i dowload from itch.io ut waht to do now

Where it says download, click and save the file
alternatively, download the itch.io launcher and it does it automatically for you.  The demo is PC only
https://itch.io/app

i think im stupid but after extracting it it j says your missing the reqirments of windows C++ runtime

i have no idea wtf that is

so legit just type out C++ visuals in to google, go to Microsoft download the latest version, and run the installer

C++ visual was a program Microsoft loaded on to windows from like the early 2000s and took care of a few things, then Windows 10 came along it was dropped, modern day you can go to the windows website and download the last version not only will some mod mangers need it but so will this game, might even help with perforce on other games you play.

I like it, I've been looking for a decent trench building/warfare game for a while, and this nailed everything I was looking for, even with a free demo. Solid 8/10 even with some of my critiques (I get this is pre-alpha and all, but still)

1. There are no game-saving mechanics at all. Your game crashed when you were four hours in? Too bad for you, start from square one

2. Rare but consistent crash when zooming in close and trying to place stuff down. (example, putting lanterns on the ground in trenches) This has happened a solid eight times in three days for me and is my biggest pet peeve with this game so far.

3. I don't like how you can cancel construction on some objects and you can't on others, like I can cancel the construction of this piece of barbed wire, but can't on this one. This happens the worst with trenches,  your men will just walk into machine gun fire to try and dig it, and they get absolutely rocked, and you can't even do anything about it.

4. hard to click on some close-together objects, like corpses.

5. There's a time limit on how long you can spend in one game (believe its Day 4 at 10:01) making it hard for someone like me who likes taking things slow and admiring the building and scenery to actually  complete the thing

I have put maybe 14 hours or so on it and have been playing since the demo became available June 23rd, overall, would recommend.

Playing Dig In I kept thinking to myself “how has this game not been made before?” Its brilliantly combined systems, style and theme grabbed me instantly. This could end up being a gem of a game.

After playing the demo i can say for sure ill love the full release. The demo feels great and you can feel the love poured into it.  Its still missing vital features but im sure the team is working on them as they seem super dedicated!

It’s fun to play, trenches are satisfying and the dev team is working on so many great things !

Can’t wait for the game to release on Steam !

Thanks Vitar !

I an profoundly thanking Vitar for giving me the delightful taste of sending my men to a senseless war to get my wine cabinet 6 inches closer to Berlin.

Once you get a grasp on how to do stuff its a 9/10 game, better than Call of Duty

(+1)

took me a while to understand the controls but afterwards it was really fun i awakened my ww1 general inside of me and i sent many young men to their deaths

still don't understand how to move up the men all at once but ill get it eventually

meee

"The game is excellent. I know there are many more things to talk about, but we would never finish. You can see the love that Vitar games has put into it and will continue to put into it, and a pre-alpha with approximately 3.3 GB of gameplay is excellent. Currently, on 23/06/2025, I would give it a [7.7/10].

You can easily spend 3 to 6 hours playing this pre-alpha, enjoying the game, Dig In

RECOMMENDED: YES!

I recommend all fans of RTS, management and other games to try DIG IN, a gem of a game!

(+1)

as your local scotsman ill be testing this game in about 10 minutes ill post my thinking of the game soon see you then my gs

game with great potential it just needs time for it to grow just keep going

Really neat start, with engaging base building as its strongest point. Main thing it lacks to unlock tremendous amounts of replay value is more engaging combat, really looking forward to seeing it evolve.
